8: SAVE THIS DATE, TOO! The 18th Annual OLD 280 BOOGIE, a multi-cultural music and arts festival is happening in Waverly, Alabama on April 21st, 2018. The Annual Spring “OLD 280” BOOGIE is renowned for beautiful scenery and hospitable spring weather. This only adds to the Southern ambiance that sets the background for the fine bands and musicians that are featured during this one-day gathering. The Boogie is also home to a row or two of select eclectic artisans, delicious food vendors and modern farmers that market their goods and wares. The Boogie began in 2001 when State Highway 280 bypassed the town and the residents held a festival to celebrate and “dance in the street.” 18 YEARS LATER, the event has evolved from a small community celebration into a national drawing that supports close to fifteen hundred attendees. https://www.facebook.com/events/879069398937038/
7: A New Development is coming to Lake Martin. The Birmingham-based firm Nequette Architecture & Design is designing homes at a new community at Lake Martin. Kennebec, a LakeTown Community, is a collaboration between Alabama Power, Daniel Communities and Nequette Architecture and Design. It will be located at the south side of Lake Martin near the Ridge Marina, both main channels of the lake and Chimney Rock. “Kennebec will consist of 41 private, wooded homesites with long, deep-water views on many lots and adjacent to 74 acres of nature preserve”, Nequette Architecture & Design said. For more details on this fabulous development, contact Michael Langston at The Lake Martin Experience at 256-750-5200 or via email at email@example.com.
6: Congrats to The Alexander City Outlook Newspaper! They were recognized as one of the ten Newspapers THAT DO IT RIGHT in the entire country! Like the majority of small newspapers around the country, the Alexander City Outlook has struggled with digital, but the paper recently decided to move away from the “sky is falling” mentality and fully embrace the mission to become a total media company. Editor Mitch Sneed said although they were already experimenting with video and social media, it wasn’t until publisher Steve Baker joined in 2016 that their approach became more aggressive. By embracing new technology and the total media company concept, they use all the tools at their disposal to connect with our community and beyond. http://www.editorandpublisher.com/feature/10-newspapers-that-do-it-right-2018-recognizing-success-in-pioneering-newsrooms-advertising-growth-and-community-engagement/

1: A Bit of Wildlife Info… During this time of the year, please be aware that deer are running. Not only in Stillwater’s (where there seem to be thousands of them, LOL), they are also out eating that new green grass next to all our roadways. We’d hate for you to ruin your stay at the lake by hitting one. Also, be aware of this message from a Stillwater’s resident last week: “Saw that coyote last night (March 2nd) around 9:15 PM on Poplar Point. Crossing the road headed up towards Eagle Peak. Dog owners beware!” Remember we have huge but beautiful hawks, eagles and other prey animals around the lake. While they can be incredible to watch, they can be a disaster if you leave your small dog unattended! https://www.facebook.com/Coppers-Grill-at-Stillwaters-643002489136049/
